  • How to enroll

A Symposium is a relatively large-scale (100-200 participants), three-to-four day event, that aims at promoting exchange of state-of-the-art knowledge among a wide audience on an important scientific or applied topic. Communications are primarily via invited Keynote Addresses and via oral and poster presentations of submitted papers (screened and accepted for presentation by the program Committee). Observers, who do not present papers, can also participate in Symposia. A Symposium results in a STO report (Meeting Proceedings).

A Lecture Series is a two-day educational event that is organised at three different locations. Lecture Series aim at disseminating state-of-the-art scientific or technical knowledge (often, but not necessarily, based on the findings of a Task Group) among wider and less specialised audiences than Specialists’ Meetings. The Lecture Series Director is responsible for the programme. Lectures are provided by the Lecture Series Director and up to four Lecturers. Lecture Series are combined with a STO report (Educational Notes), which will be made available before the first Lecture Series session.

A Workshop is a small, two-day, semi-formal meeting, that aims at facilitating intensive information exchange and focussed discussion on a specific topic among a limited number of invited experts (15-25). No specific format is prescribed. Workshops may be organised upon the initiative of a Task Group. Workshops result in a STO report (Meeting Proceedings).

Short Courses and Refresher Courses are two-day educational events that are organised at two (sometimes more) different locations. Short and Refresher Courses aim at disseminating state-of-the-art scientific or technical knowledge (often, but not necessarily, based on the findings of a Task Group), primarily among operational audiences. The Course Director is responsible for the programme. Presentations are provided by the Course Director and up to four Speakers. In contrast with Lecture Series, Short and Refresher Courses are not associated with a STO report.

Exploratory Teams may be established when a Panel believes that a particular expertise is required to assist or advise the Panel on the technical merit or feasibility of a specific proposal or a technical activity. Exploratory teams may also be used to help the panel develop recommendations on future content of the Panel's technical program.

A Specialists’ Meeting is a medium-sized (up to 100 participants) three-day event that aims at promoting exchange of state-of-the-art knowledge among an audience of experts and specialists on an important scientific or applied topic. Communications are via invited oral Keynote Addresses and via invited oral presentations. The program Committee is responsible for selecting and inviting the Speakers. Observers, who present no paper, can also participate. Specialists’ Meetings result in a STO report (Meeting Proceedings).
